Stroke Center Planning Begins
MeritCare is committed to excellence by providing the highest quality care for the region. This philosophy is what drives the MeritCare Stroke Team to work towards the highest quality stroke care.
Quality efforts include focusing on stroke care throughout the health care continuum: emergency services, acute inpatient, rehabilitation and discharge support including home health care.
Patient education and community outreach also are imperative, whereby MeritCare is committed to promoting stroke prevention at all levels and by providing “Brain Attack” education.
Efforts are underway to improve and maintain a strong stroke program by achieving certification as a JCAHO Primary Stroke Center (PSC). This JCAHO designation is a national recognition of achievement, and represents the “highest level of recognition achievable by a health care provider.” It is a measure of a health system’s ability to effectively use clinical practice guidelines and to continually measure and improve stroke care. Currently there are no Primary Stroke Centers in North Dakota. The proceeds from the 2006 Festival of Wreaths will be used to assist MeritCare in achieving this goal.
Survivors of Stroke Support Group
Survivors of Stroke provides monthly education sessions, activities/crafts and opportunities to socialize with and learn from others who have experienced stroke.
