Besides bringing babies into the world, OB/GYN works closely with MeritCare's Reproductive Medicine.
Common Procedures
You might see an OB/GYN if you were having problems with urinary incontinence, menopause, fertility, an infection or irregular bleeding. Many women see an OB/GYN (whether a doctor or a nurse practitioner) for their annual physical. An office visit usually consists of a gynecological exam. You would be asked your height and weight, have a blood pressure check, and maybe receive a hemoglobin or urine check depending on the reason for your visit.
Additional Information
Several other procedures can be performed during your visit. For example, Norplant — the implanted capsule release birth control — can be inserted in the office, and different kinds of cervical and uterine biopsies can be performed if you have an irregular Pap smear.
