MeritCare Kidney Program
Founded in 1989 as Transplant Services of Fargo, MeritCare Transplant Services has performed over 400 organ transplants. We offer both deceased and living donor renal transplants to patients with end–stage renal disease. At MeritCare, you'll receive one–on–one care at all stages–from pre–transplant evaluation to post–transplant follow–up–all at a single facility. Learn more about organ donation, financial considerations and medications used by transplant patients.
MeritCare Pancreas Transplant Program
MeritCare Transplant Services implemented pancreas transplants in 2001. We've had great success with our diabetic patients having the opportunity to live life insulin–free. We offer pancreas transplants to our patients for one of three reasons:
- Diabetics with kidney failure in need of a kidney and pancreas transplant.
- People with diabetes who received a kidney transplant in the past and now need a pancreas transplant to improve blood sugar control and prevent further diabetic complications. (Including damage to the transplanted kidney.)
- Diabetics who have early or no kidney disease but need a pancreas to improve severe complications from blood sugar control and/or prevent the progression of diabetic complications (including kidney disease).

Map to MeritCare Transplant Services
MeritCare Transplant Services offers pancreas transplant three ways. It is either performed simultaneously with a kidney transplant (SPK), after a patient has received a successful kidney transplant (PAK) or performed as a pancreas transplant alone (PTA).
There will be many people involved in your transplant and all have a common goal: a successful transplant for you. Learn more about your transplant team.
Transplant Clinic
Patients will have pre— and post—transplant appointments located at the Transplant Clinic, which is open from 8am—5pm Monday through Friday. The Transplant Clinic is located on the first floor of Broadway Health Center located directly across from MeritCare Clinic. It is connected to the clinic via a skyway on the 2nd floor.
