The Spirit of Giving Lives On

In 1905, when founding physicians Dr. Olaf Sand and Dr. Nils Tronnes vividly described the desperate need for a new hospital in Fargo, they inspired a spirit of giving that has surpassed a century.

Visit MeritCare's Historic Display

MeritCare’s history will be showcased in a special centennial historic display. The display will take viewers through a detailed timeline of notable events during the last century through five themes: Lighting the Way, 100 years of caring, the evolving role of nursing, pioneering the practice of medicine and caring through the generations. A centerpiece of the display will be founder Dr. Nils Tronnes' original desk and an original photograph of Tronnes at the desk.

Food, Mind, & Body Relationship--New Intuitive Eating Course

This educational series is broken into 10 sessions; each session has two classes. The mandatory introductory session (class 1 and 2) is offered periodically throughout the year. Classes may include group discussions, guest speakers, grocery store and restaurant outings, physical activity, and much more. The first class will be offered on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 5:30-7:30 on the 3rd floor Education Room at MeritCare Southpointe.

May Health Talk on Children and Cancer

Tune into Health Talk to learn the latest information about children and cancer. Dr. Sandeep Batra, pediatric oncologist, will talk about what excellence in the care of children with cancer includes: specially trained doctors, access to clinical research trials, a setting appropriate for children and families, and specialized programs for disease.

National Stroke Awareness Month

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. A stroke is caused by a blocked or burst blood vessel in the brain. Without a steady flow of blood, brain tissue begins to die. Recognizing the symptoms of a stroke and getting immediate treatment can save brain tissue, and with it, memories and abilities. Recognize the symptoms of stroke, learn how to reduce your risk, and learn all that MeritCare offers patients.
