What you can expect
MeritCare's Bariatric Surgery Program is committed to providing the highest quality care, and we have the numbers to prove it. In the more than 4,000 gastric bypass cases performed at MeritCare over the past 27 years:
- MeritCare's mortality rate is less than 0.1 percent, which is less than the national average of one to two percent.
- Patients successfully lose an average of 40 percent pre-operative weight in the first 12 to 18 months. A patient who weighs 300 pounds, for example, will lose an average of 120 pounds.
- Three to five years after surgery, patients experience an average of six percent weight regain. The patient above who lost 120 pounds, for example, will regain 20 pounds for an average permanent weight loss of 100 pounds.
- Patients have been very satisfied with their bariatric surgery at MeritCare. Most would do it again and recommend it to a friend.
