Qualifying for Bariatric Surgery


Gastric bypass

If you are between the ages of 14 and 70, we will consider you for gastric bypass surgery if you have:

  • A body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher. Calculate your BMI.
  • A BMI of 35 to 40 combined with serious weight-related health concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure and others. See the complete list of weight-related health concerns.
  • Demonstrated a supervised, documented attempt in the past year to lose weight through diet and exercise, but have been unable to achieve/maintain success in weight loss.
  • A good understanding of lifestyle changes needed after surgery.

Lap band

We will consider you for lap banding if you are:

  • Between the ages of 18 and 65
  • 80 to 100 pounds overweight
  • Demonstrated a supervised, documented attempt in the past year to lose weight through diet and exercise, but have been unable to achieve/maintain success in weight loss.
  • A good understanding of lifestyle changes needed after surgery.
