When to Seek Help

Stacey If a couple has been trying for a year to conceive and they have not succeeded, it's recommended they seek help. Help should be sought sooner if:

  • The woman is older than 35. A woman is at her peak fertility in her mid-20s, beginning a rapid decline at about age 30. Male fertility is also at its peak in the 20s, declining slowly until 40. (Time is a very real factor for some couples trying to conceive.)
  • Something in the couple's medical history indicates a possible problem. This would include:
