Heart Hospital Services
When patients arrive, heart care often begins in the Emergency Center. Seconds count — rapid response and treatment are essential in heart care, and the emergency center staff is trained to recognize symptoms and act quickly. After admission, patients are cared for in one of the following hospital units:
-
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
This advanced unit features staff highly skilled in caring for our most critically ill heart patients who require close monitoring and continuous care. Team members, together with families, help promote optimal healing.
-
Progressive Cardiac Care Unit
Most patients are transferred to this unit within one or two days following surgery. Here, heart surgery patients stay about another three to four days. For heart medical patients who do not require surgery, the stay is an additional one to two days. Patients continue to be closely monitored by nurses, and a state-of-the-art telemetry system transmits the patient's heart rhythm, heart rate and other vital signs to the nursing/telemetry station for close observation.
-
Day Unit
The day unit focuses on patients who may be in the hospital for a short time for an exam or specialized treatment. Caring nurses prepare patients and families by providing education and answering questions regarding the scheduled procedure.
