Athletic Training

The athletic trainers at MeritCare Sports Medicine are well-known for their work with athletes at area schools and colleges, though they are called upon to perform a wide variety of duties at MeritCare as well.

For example, they work closely with the other members of our team to design treatment and rehabilitation programs for patients who have suffered sports-related injuries.

They also serve an educational role, sharing injury-prevention techniques with patients and individuals in our various fitness programs.

Other duties our athletic trainers provide include:

  • On- and off-the-field injury prevention and management
  • Recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries
  • Attendance at sporting events to ensure prompt evaluation and treatment of injuries
  • Taping, bandaging, wrapping and bracing of limbs to prepare athletes for practice or competition
  • School visits to provide injury-prevention education, evaluation, treatment and reconditioning services
