How the Program Works
Initial Consultation
Your program begins with a facility tour and confidential discussion regarding medical history, personal goals and questions or concerns. It also includes a comprehensive health risk assessment. This appointment is free and allows you to decide which program is appropriate for you.
Fitness Evaluation/Interpretation
After the initial consultation, our staff will administer a fitness evaluation to determine a baseline fitness level, so we can track your progress and prescribe specific exercises based on your strengths, weaknesses, goals and interests.
A typical evaluation takes an hour and measures your resting heart rate, resting blood pressure, body composition (skinfold assessment), aerobic capacity, flexibility and muscular strength/endurance.
Individual Exercise Program
Utilizing the information from the initial consultation and fitness evaluation, we will design an individualized exercise program for you. Exercise sessions will include:
- Warm-up activities
- Aerobic conditioning
- Toning
- Strength training
- Flexibility exercises
- Cool-down
Following these guidelines will put you well on your way toward meeting your fitness goals.
Personal Training Sessions
Before embarking on your exercise program, our exercise physiology staff will teach you safe, effective exercise techniques and educate you on training intensity, frequency and progression to maximize results and reduce injuries. They will also
- Demonstrate proper warm-up, exercise, cool-down and stretching techniques
- Explain machine set-up and appropriate workload guidelines
- Teach you basic exercise principles
In addition, we will recommend an appropriate number of exercise sessions per week based on your individual needs and abilities.
Reevaluation and Follow-up
We will schedule a reevaluation and follow-up session for three months after you begin your IEP and suggest having them every six months after that. At these meetings, a member of our exercise physiology staff will sit down with you to assess your progress and make any necessary changes to your program.
