Classes Recommended for Everyone

All classes at MeritCare welcome any age or fitness level.
  • Tai Chi Ch'uan

    The official style of Tai Chi in China. Learn 24 movements that are relaxed and performed in controlled, meditative state. This class will improve your balance and body awareness.
  • Yoga

    Hatha yoga will focus on physical postures and core energy. Yoga defined means union.
  • Circuit

    A little bit of everything and no class is ever repeated. Participants rotate through various strength and or aerobic stations. It's like having a personal training session.
  • Core Maxed

    Core training with a variety of muscular endurance exercises designed to increase strength, flexibility and abdominal toning.
  • Cardio A'la Carte

    Heart pumping cardio followed by a variety of exercises designed to work all the major muscle groups right down to the core. End this energizing workout with a relaxing stretch to get you through the rest of your day.
  • Mixin It Up

    Your very own muscle makeover. Get to know all your instructors with this class rotation schedule. They will provide all the knowledge and, motivation, you will reap all the benefits through a variety of fitness challenges. Bring your friends to this one!
  • The Spin Cycle

    Join us for a 45 minute spinning class that will challenge and invigorate those early a.m. exercisers. This class is open to all insomniacs. They call us the Dirty Dozen. Are you up to the challenge?

Aquatic Classes

  • Splash Water Workout

    Enjoy a safe, vigorous group water exercise class designed to help increase aerobic endurance, muscle tone and flexibility. No time is wasted here and you've never had this much fun in a workout! All fitness levels are welcome and participants need not be swimmers. Classes may be joined at any time.  Come join us!
  • Aqua Energy

    Complete your day with a vigorous water exercise class that will leave you energized and looking forward to your next class. All fitness levels welcome, need not be a swimmer.
  • Warm Water Physical Therapy

    Many special populations are entering the pool to take advantage of the endless benefits of aquatic therapy. Aquatic personal training is appropriate for all fitness levels and uses the special properties of water: buoyancy, drag, and resistance to achieve improved functional movement and overall performance. The water offers a training environment where individuals with diverse needs can improve joint stability, muscular strength, endurance, and cardiorespiratory health while also combating the negative implications of injury, chronic conditions, pain and the natural effects of aging.

Specialty Classes

  • Active Adult

    Class is for the 55+ adult. This is a well-rounded class that incorporates muscular endurance, cardiovascular conditioning, balance, and flexibility.
  • Active Adult Group Fitness

    This is a great class to meet new people and learn new exercises correctly and safely. The class moves you through a warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, resistance training with light hand weights, torso stabilization, balance exercises and a final stretch. This class is appropriate for the 50+ age group. Work at your own fitness level but start to feel stronger with each class.
  • Prenatal

    For women who are currently pregnant or planning to become a new mother. Any class is appropriate for prenatal exercise. Recommendations include: aquatic classes, yoga and pilates. Please share your health information with your instructor.
  • Youth Fitness

    For ages 8-12. Games are incorporated to develop strength, coordination, agility, and fun.
  • Cardiac Rehab - Hearts Plus

    This specialty program is designed for individuals who have a history of heart disease or at risk for heart concerns. Whether you are beginning our program at the advice of your physician, or are continuing from another program, Cardiac Rehab and Hearts Plus will assist you in living a healthier life. This class is held at Broadway Health Center and Southpointe. For more information or to register, please call 234-5659.
  • Diabetes Exercise Program

    A team of exercise physiologists, nurse diabetes educators and dietitians leads the program, which consists of 30 minutes of education including diabetes management, diet and exercise with 45 minutes of exercise.   • Sit N Fit

    A group exercise program designed for individuals with orthopedic concerns, mental and physical limitations and those who are not able to exercise independently. This class will provide a total body workout appropriate for gait assisted and wheel chair bound individuals. Caregivers are also welcome at no additional fee.   • Mat Pilates

    This dynamic mind-body class promotes a feeling of physical and mental well being while increasing muscle tone, flexibility and core strength.
  • Cardio Ball

    Stability ball basics at its best. Includes aerobic movement, toning, balance and a great stretch. Get on the ball!

Yoga Classes

  • Integrative Yoga Therapy

    Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) is a therapeutic approach to alleviate suffering, support rehabilitation, and improve the quality of life through yoga-based programs in the medical setting. Learn about the body and the energy systems. Practice a series of poses with specific attention to alignment with an opportunity to practice the poses to meet individual needs. Learn meditative techniques including mantra, mudra, pranayama. IYT is an experience that will address the body, mind, and spirit.
  • Hatha Yoga

    This term is used to describe all physical Yoga postures, which may include several different styles. We emphasize alignment, proper breathing and show modifications for different fitness levels. This class is open to everyone.
  • Yoga Lates

    This class is an invigorating fusion of classic Pilates moves and flowing yoga to bring you a balanced and effective workout.

About Our Facilities

The Fitness Center at MeritCare Southpointe is the largest and most comprehensive exercise facility center in the region, offering a number of amenities you won't find anywhere else. Unlike a health club, the Center is part of a comprehensive healthcare system that includes a wide range of medical specialties and services.

Fees for Group Fitness Classes

Most group fitness classes are included in the Lifelong Fitness membership. Aquatic classes require an additional minimal fee.

Passes are also available for non-members for our group fitness classes. They are $60 for a 10-class pass. Single class fee: $7 per class.

MeritCare associates receive a special reduced fee for group fitness classes.
