How the Program Works
Walk-Through Survey
If you would like, a member of our staff can conduct a "walk-through" survey of your company. This visit helps us see what physical challenges your type of work environment presents and what unique areas may need addressing in your company's fitness program.
Initial Consultation
Each participating employee will receive a private consultation with a MeritCare
exercise physiologist. This session will cover personal and family health history, physical limitations, expectations and goal setting.
Fitness Evaluation/Interpretation
After the initial consultation, our staff will administer fitness evaluations to determine baseline fitness levels for each participating employee. We will base these evaluation on the physical demands of the work each person does.
- For employees with less physical jobs, we will measure cardiorespiratory endurance, body composition and flexibility.
- For employees with more physically demanding jobs, we will measure muscle strength and endurance.
We will explain these procedures thoroughly to your employees and keep the findings confidential.
Individual Exercise Prescription
Utilizing the information from the initial consultation and fitness evaluation, we will create an Individual Exercise Prescription (IEP) for each participating employee. Exercise sessions will include:
- Warm-up activities
- Aerobic conditioning
- Toning
- Strength training
- Flexibility exercises
- Cool-down
In addition, we will recommend an appropriate number of exercise sessions per week based on individual needs and abilities. By following these guidelines, employees can meet their fitness goals, while you reap the rewards of a healthier workforce.
Exercise Training Sessions
Our exercise physiology staff will train your employees before letting them embark on their IEPs. Training sessions will teach safe, effective exercise techniques and educate your employees on training intensity, frequency and progression to maximize results and reduce injuries.
Reevaluation and Follow-up
Periodic reevaluations will be scheduled after three months and then every six months after that. These sessions are useful for assessing progress and making any necessary changes to individual training programs.
Follow-up meetings will be scheduled periodically as well to provide an opportunity for your employees to ask questions and receive additional information about their fitness program.
