Chemical Peel
If it's been years since your skin has had that "healthy glow," a chemical peel may be for you. Chemical peels use a chemical solution to safely improve and smooth the texture of your facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers.
Why a chemical peel?
- Excellent results. A chemical peel creates a fresher tone and healthier appearance to your skin. Although it cannot reverse the aging process, it safely and effectively addresses wrinkles, sun damage, acne, rosacea, blotchy skin and precancerous skin lesions.
- Safety. At MeritCare Dermatology, you can rest assured you're receiving high-quality care delivered by trained medical professionals. Led by board-certified dermatologists, our team regards your health and safety as the top priority.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels are topically applied solutions that help rejuvenate the skin's surface by creating an even and controlled shedding of several layers of skin cells. This allows new layers to be exposed and creates a fresh appearance to the skin surface. In addition, new cells and collagen are stimulated, creating a more even skin tone.
Chemical peels are divided into three types: superficial, medium-depth and deep. The type of peel depends on the strength of the chemical used, and on how deeply it penetrates. Superficial peels are used for fine wrinkles, sun damage, acne and rosacea. The medium-depth peel is used for more obvious wrinkles and sun damage as well as for precancerous lesions like actinic keratoses. Deep peels are used for the most severe wrinkling and sun damage.
Is a chemical peel right for me?
At MeritCare, the type and frequency of the chemical peel are based on your personal needs. Before treatment begins, a consultation takes place with MeritCare Dermatology to help ensure you will be happy with your results. Few risks are associated with chemical peels*. The professionals at MeritCare Dermatology will advise you.
Extra effort is taken to prepare the skin and ensure a good understanding of what's involved in after-care. The results of chemical peels can be enhanced and extended when individuals commit themselves to good skin-care routines, including appropriate moisturizers and consistent use of sunscreens.
Sounds expensive – is it?
MeritCare Dermatology offers competitive pricing with satisfying results. And there's another aspect that's priceless: the peace of mind that comes with knowing your treatment is performed at a place you trust by trained medical professionals who have your best interest in mind.
Depending on the condition and coloration of your skin, the penetration depth needed to achieve satisfying results will vary. During your initial consultation, the professionals at MeritCare Dermatology will determine the depth needed for your chemical peel.
Payment is required prior to starting treatment. Although cosmetic procedures are typically not covered by insurance, in certain cases, chemical peels are covered. It's worth checking with your insurance company to make sure.
*A small number of patients may experience uneven pigmentation and, even more rarely, scarring. Sunscreen usage is mandatory for at least six months after the healing is complete.
