Security

At MeritCare Children's Hospital, keeping your child safe and secure is our top priority. That is why we use the Safe Place™ Infant/Child Monitoring Solution with you and your baby in mind.

From the moment a Safe Place Alarming Band Transmitter is attached to a child's ankle, their safety becomes manageable. Safe Place Infant/Child gives you peace of mind knowing that if an abductor attempts to remove your baby through any exit or elevator, an alarm will sound. In fact, any attempt to tamper with system wiring or ankle tags by unauthorized personnel will send an alert to the monitoring system.

The band transmitters have another important and beneficial feature that prevents accidental infant linking with the wrong mother. The tags are immediately attached and programmed to link mother to baby. A unique discharge feature requires a match before you and your baby leave our facility.

The NICU's main entrance is an additional step we take to make our unit as safe and secure as possible. With the main entrance, everyone who enters or exits must pass by our nurses' station where they are closely monitored. Also in the NICU, only those wearing a MeritCare name badge are allowed to handle the babies.
