Intervention for Moderate to Severe TBI
Physical / Motor Planning / Visual Interventions
Levels VI-VII
May perform activities requiring more complex commands. The child will function best in structured activities requiring frequent cues. Can work on higher level activities of balance and motor planning if physically appropriate.
Balance: Therapists facilities child's ability to maintain midline orientation without falling. Can be worked on in a variety of positions, I.E. standing, sitting, hands, and knees, sidelying and walking. Balance is assessed in both static and dynamic activities. Depending on the location of injury to the brain, balance may be severely or mildly affected.
Motor Planning/Coordination: Therapist facilitates higher-level gait activities such as galloping, skipping, running, hopping, jumping, and stair skills are assessed as appropriate.
Level VIII
Increased activity, tolerance and attending skills at this level. Continue higher level balance and endurance skills as appropriate.
