embrace Cancer Survivorship
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Nov 10, 6:30 p.m. – Learn more about embrace, MeritCare's cancer survivorship program.
Dr. Shelby Terstriep, embrace medical director and MeritCare oncologist will be our guest. The Festival of Wreaths is Friday, Nov. 20, and Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Ramada Plaza Suites Crystal Ballroom, Fargo. All proceeds from this years' event will go to embrace, MeritCare's Cancer Survivorship Program.

More and more people are surviving cancer every year with the advances in both early detection and successful treatments. But, once treatment is completed, there is often a void for survivors, and that is where embrace comes in.

From the moment of diagnosis, patients are survivors. Family, friends and caregivers who are impacted by cancer are also survivors. Cancer survivors face many long-lasting emotional, physical and financial effects. embrace, MeritCare's Cancer Survivorship Program, helps address these concerns, by connecting, educating and empowering survivors. Our integrated approach means people will have access to medical, psychological, financial planning, preventative and educational care through one program.

Ways that embrace is assisting survivors include:

  • A Web site devoted to addressing survivor concerns — embrace.meritcare.com.

  • Connecting people to local resources.

  • A calendar of events for survivorship related information.

  • A monthly newsletter for those who are interested — either electronically or by post.

Often patients feel that survivorship care is harder than their actual treatment time because they feel very loved and taken care of during treatment, and then after, they feel alone. They are suddenly back to the real world, but they still have a lot of side effects and concerns that impact them significantly in their life related to their cancer. embrace is here to address those needs.
