Four great reasons to choose a "100 Top Heart Hospital"

When deciding where to go for heart care, you have options. One clearly stands out. For the eighth time in nine years, MeritCare was named one of the nation's "100 Top Heart Hospitals," an honor only a handful of hospitals in the U.S. have repeatedly received.

The well-respected Thomson* study evaluated nearly 1,000 highperforming heart centers nationwide, analyzing them in several specific categories. According to Thomson, the 100 Top Heart Hospitals, including MeritCare, achieve the following:

  1. Save more lives
  2. Avoid more medical complications
  3. Treat patients in less time
  4. Do all of the above at a lower cost

The study noted that if all heart hospitals achieved the same results, more than 7,000 lives would be saved and nearly 750 medical complications would be avoided each year. The study was published in the Nov. 19, 2007, issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.

For the 6,000+ heart patients cared for at MeritCare Heart Center, the study conveys important news. But it's important, too, for those whose future may include a heart-care choice.

Proven excellence from the region's largest team

* The full name of the study: "Thomson 100 Top Hospitals Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success." Formerly Solucient, the Thomson study is independent, meaning hospitals receiving recognition do not pay for the honor or the rights to use it.
