1900

St. John's Hospital opens in Fargo; in 1904, they move to a new facility with 87 beds

1907

St. Ansgar Hospital opens in Moorhead

1908

St. Luke's Hospital opens in Fargo with 35 beds

1921

Fargo Clinic opens in Fargo, adjacent to St. Luke's Hospital

1926

Dakota Clinic is founded

1929

The Veterans Administration opens in Fargo with 59 beds; in 1938, bed capacity at 176

By 1950

Fargo Clinic has 30 doctors; St. Luke's Hospital has 100 beds

1957

Dakota Clinic moves to University Drive location

1964

Dakota Hospital opens next to Dakota Clinic with 80 beds

By 1970

Fargo Clinic has 70 doctors; St. Luke's Hospital has 364 beds

1992

Champion Healthcare of Houston buys St. John's and St. Ansgar and consolidates the two hospitals on the St. John's campus, renaming it Heartland Medical Center

1993

St. Luke's Hospital and Fargo Clinic merge to form MeritCare Health System

1994

Dakota Heartland Health System (DHHS) is created as an equal partnership between Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) and Champion Healthcare

1996

Champion mergers with Paracelsus Healthcare Corporation and changes its name to Paracelsus

1998

Dakota Medical Foundation exercises their option to end their partnership with Paracelsus. The buyout creates one of the largest foundations in North Dakota.

2000

Dakota Clinic/Innovis Health, a joint venture between Dakota Clinic and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota opens with 74 beds.

2001

Dakota Heartland Hospital becomes Heartland Hospital and Paracelsus changes its name to Clarent Hospital Corporation.

MeritCare purchases the assets of Heartland Health System. Heartland Hospital becomes MeritCare South University.
