Dr. Cathy Breedon

2005 Honorary Chairperson
Dr. Cathy Breedon, Moorhead, Minn.

Dr. Cathy Breedon of Moorhead, Minn. knows all too well the importance of exceptional cancer research, treatment and care-not only because it relates to her job, but because it saved her life. Seven years ago, cancer became personal for Cathy as she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer with a poor prognosis. Because of the expertise available at the Roger Maris Cancer Center, and especially that of oncologist Dr. Gerald Gross, she was able to obtain an equally aggressive treatment to match. Today she remains cancer free. She notes that another benefit of having the Roger Maris Cancer Center close by is the comfort of the follow-up care that she continues to receive there.

Cathy is the Clinical Nutrition Specialist at MeritCare and is a nationally known speaker on many nutrition topics, including the role of nutrition in reducing cancer risk and the use of specific nutrients as adjuncts to cancer treatment. She is a long-time MeritCare associate and teaches at the UND School of Medicine and at MSUM.

Cathy has worked at MeritCare Children's Hospital for over 20 years, and has also seen the incredible progress that has been made specifically in the treatment of children with cancer, both in terms of the rate of treatment success and in the children's total experience of being treated for cancer. The Roger Maris Cancer Center has made a world of difference.
