2006 CMN Champion
Tanya Holbrook
Tanya Holbrook has worked hard through many challenges. Yet, her bubbly personality and positive attitude is the same even after the critical series of events she's been through.
On January 2nd of 2005 Tanya complained of a headache and was rushed to MeritCare Children's Hospital where the diagnosis was not good; at age six a cluster of blood vessels exploded in Tanya's brain. Her CT scan showed significant hemorrhaging in two of the four connected cavities in her brain. Tanya was rushed into emergency surgery where doctors placed a stent in her head to relieve the pressure from the excess blood.
Her surgery was successful but not the last of her medical challenges. The day after surgery Tanya's young heart gave out; she went into cardiac arrest and was not expected to live.
After 2 weeks of hospitalization Tanya is able to move her legs a little bit, she is unable to move her arms and is considered legally blind. With time her sight may improve and with lots of therapy her mobility may improve as well.
After 3½ months of hospitalization Tanya gets to go home. Tanya still has many challenges to face but she has made remarkable progress. Tanya was not expected to live and was able to walk out of the Hospital on the day she was discharged.
Tanya is living proof that miracles do happen at MeritCare Children's Hospital!
Tanya has been named our 2006 Children's Miracle Network Champion. We invite you to join Tanya and many other children at our annual Children's Miracle Network Television Celebration on June 3rd.
