Brandon Lee

In the fall of 2002, Brandon Lee began experiencing painful headaches, a condition unusual for an athletic nine-year-old boy. On New Year's Eve, when Brandon's headache became so severe that he could no longer tolerate the pain, his parents, Kimi and Jason, knew something was terribly wrong. They rushed him to MeritCare Emergency Center, where doctors discovered a tumor behind Brandon's eye.

Brandon was immediately admitted to MeritCare Children's Hospital and placed under the specialized care of a pediatric neurologist and pediatric oncologist. Surgery would be Brandon's best option so he began taking steroids to shrink the tumor. On January 6th, Brandon's tumor was successfully removed and his road-to-recovery, including chemotherapy and radiation treatments, began.

Today, Brandon is 11-years-old, has finished his treatments and plans to be very active at McKinley Elementary school in sports and plays. He's also looking forward to hunting and planning for his future. His long-term goal is to become a NFL football player and a registered nurse. Brandon wants to give something back and would like to work with children who have cancer.

Kimi and Jason feel truly blessed to have such an experienced and caring team of doctors, surgeons and nurses at MeritCare Children's Hospital. "To do what they do every single day and to watch all these children go through their treatments and pain, yet always seem to carry a smile…it's truly amazing," says Kimi. "They are very caring and special people, and we could not have made it through Brandon's surgery, treatments and hospitalization without them."
