The Aircraft

LifeFlight Helicopter

The helicopter is a Bell 222, which travels at 170 miles per hour and is operated by PHI Helicopters. In April 2003, MeritCare's LifeFlight helicopter returned from major refurbishing and upgrading. The upgrade included installation of patient handling and communications systems, a "collision avoidance system" and an automated satellite position reporting system. These systems greatly increase the safety of the aircraft.

LifeFlight Plane

The fixed-wing aircraft is a Beechcraft King Air 200 turbo prop, capable of traveling at 330 miles per hour. The aircraft is operated by Fargo Jet Center.

All vehicles are medically configured and contain the equipment necessary to treat a critically ill patient while in transport, including oxygen, heart monitors, suction pumps, emergency drugs and other necessary equipment and age-specific supplies.
