Picture Yourself in our Super Colon

Want the inside track on how to prevent colorectal cancer? Start by taking a walk in a colon – an eight foot tall, 20-foot long Prevent Cancer Super Colon™!

Now traveling the nation, the Super Colon ™ interactive educational exhibit comes to Fargo on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31. The exhibit coincides with a public education event offered by MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center, the region's leader in cancer care. All activities take place at Ramada Plaza Suites, 1635 42nd St. S.W.

The second leading cancer killer in the United States, colorectal cancer is largely preventable. Screenings for early detection and lifestyle choices make a key difference. Here's how to learn more:

Tour the Super Colon – Friday, Oct. 30, 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31 8:30 a.m.-noon

  • Stop by for an up-close, personal look inside the colon. What does healthy tissue look like? What are polyps? Why is colorectal cancer preventable, treatable and beatable?

  • See for yourself and talk to experts. On Friday evening, Erik Fetner, MD, MeritCare colorectal surgeon, and Cancer Center staff will be available to answer questions.



Attend the Saturday morning health education seminar

  • At 9 a.m. Stephen Spellman, MD, MeritCare gastroenterologist, gives an overview on the fight against colorectal cancer.

  • At 10 a.m. Jay Taylor, RT registered respiratory therapist and Mayo Clinic-certified tobacco treatment specialist for MeritCare Tobacco Dependence Program.

  • At 11 a.m. Cathy Breedon, Ph.D., MeritCare clinical nutrition specialist, talks about the role of nutrition in preventing colorectal cancer.
